Originally trained as a cabinet maker, Arthur J. Barnes worked for the firm of W.E. Hill & Sons from 1919 to 1939, when he left to serve in WWII. Though his deafness hindered his ability to communicate and prevented him from working above the level of lesser grade bows, he was a skilled craftsman.
